Whether a transfer can be refunded depends on how its route works.
- Fast bridges fill your transfer on the destination chain from their own funds. If nobody fills it before its deadline, the transfer is cancelled and your tokens come back to the wallet you sent from, on the chain you sent from. You don't need to do anything.
- Native bridges, CCTP and messaging networks don't refund. Your tokens are already on their way, so a slow transfer finishes on the destination chain instead. No refund needed
Automatic refunds
Fast bridges refund you without any action, usually within a few hours of the deadline.
While you wait, Activity may show Refund in progress. Some providers skip that step, and the transfer changes straight to Refunded when the tokens are back.
You might get back a different token
A refund returns what the provider was holding, which isn't always what you sent.
- If your transfer swapped first, you get back the token it was swapped into, often USDC, ETH or WETH. For example, if you sent PEPE and the route swapped it to USDC to bridge, the refund arrives as USDC.
- Some providers deduct the gas cost of sending the refund, so the amount can be slightly lower.
No refund needed
Native bridges, CCTP and messaging networks lock, burn or send a message for your tokens as soon as you start. They can't be cancelled or refunded, but they don't expire either. Your tokens stay safe until the transfer completes.
- Native bridges and manual CCTP routes wait for you. Check Activity for Action needed, then select Prove or Finalize. Withdraw with a native bridge
- Messaging networks deliver once the network relays your transfer. This is usually minutes. If it's still In progress hours later, contact us.
Check a refund
Open a Refunded transfer in Activity. It shows two transactions:
- Initiating transaction, the one you sent
- Refund transaction, the one that returned your tokens
Select either one to see it on the explorer. Both are on the chain you sent from.
The refund goes to the wallet that sent the transfer, not the recipient. If you can't see it, check that your wallet is on the chain you sent from, and look for the token it may have been swapped into. I can't see my tokens
Still stuck?
Contact us if Refund in progress has shown for more than a day, or a transfer is still In progress hours after its estimate. Include the transaction hash. What to include
